Dame Anita Roddick (1942 – 2007)

The organizers of World Hepatitis Awareness Day 2007 express deep sadness for the sudden death, on September 10th 2007, of Dame Anita Roddick. An active supporter of hepatitis C and liver disease organisations in Europe, Dame Anita’s public endorsement was important in encouraging MEPs to adopt a Written Declaration on Hepatitis C earlier this year. She had also kindly agreed to be the key speaker at the WHAD 2007 media event on October 1st in Brussels to raise global awareness of viral hepatitis.

Her generous nature and spirit will be sadly missed.

WHAD 2007 organizers would like to extend their deepest sympathies to her family.

Media Event

World Hepatitis Awareness Day (WHAD) 2007

WHAD 2007 is an opportunity for the global hepatitis community to increase awareness of viral hepatitis (B and C) and communicate facts about the disease to a worldwide audience.

The European Liver Patients Association (ELPA) Media Event in Brussels on October 1st plans to kick off WHAD 2007 and will spear head hundreds of events being organized around the world. More than 40 countries worldwide, from Brussels to Bangladesh, will stage events aimed at raising awareness.

The event will increase awareness of viral hepatitis among at-risk groups, the wider population, patients and healthcare professionals, by highlighting the importance of early diagnosis, as well obtaining messages of support from key policymakers and promoting best-practice across the world on the management of hepatitis.

180 million people are infected with hepatitis C, many of whom don’t know it.

Could you be one of them?

Get tested.
